Grief and Loss Therapy in Buffalo, New York
I have experienced many losses and greatly enjoy using my experiences and professional studies to help others through the process. Studies show that grieving imposes a task: to make meaning of our suffering. This is highly personal - what works for one person may not work for another - so I may suggest dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), or schema therapy depending upon your unique experience of grief.
Studies also show that grieving initially causes deficits: people’s productivity at work dwindles, their health suffers, etc. But if people allow themselves to work through their grief, they actually grow from it (similar to the concept of post-traumatic growth). We have evolved to experience loss and to be able to survive it.
I have worked with patients grieving children, parents, siblings, spouses, friends, careers, and pets. Your grief won’t scare me, it isn’t a burden, and I won’t dismiss it as trivial. If you’re ready to wade into that pain, I’d be honored to sit with you in it and guide you, as needed.
